Live your best life
Health and Fitness Progressions are affiliated with the passionate Myotherapists at Optimum Muscular Health – offering solutions to your musculoskeletal injuries through holistic treatments and treatment plans.
By looking at the whole body rather than just the injury site, we are able to get to the root cause of a problem, helping you recover from injury, and prevent any recurrence in the future.
While massage is often associated with it’s benefits for relaxation, Myotherapy aims to treat pain caused by injuries or issues with your muscles or soft tissue.
Myotherapists use a range of treatment techniques ranging from Deep Tissue Massage, Trigger Point Therapy, Cupping, Dry Needling, Myofascial Release and stretching.
The benefits of Myotherapy include reduced joint and muscle pain/stiffness, increased mobility, flexibility and improved posture leading to injury prevention.
When should I see a Myotherapist?
Myotherapy treatments are beneficial at any point during the preventative or rehabilitative stage of an injury and certainly, if you’ve been experiencing any muscular pain for more than a few days. Symptoms may include stiffness, aching, numbness, tingling, weakness or fatigue.
What should I expect from my initial consultation?
We believe the key to treating effectively is through asking the right questions.
Your Myotherapist will want to understand the detailed history of the symptoms you are feeling. They will then want to go through a series of assessments to determine which structures are under duress or not functioning properly. So, there will be a series of Q and A’s along with physical movement analysis.
This will look like:
- Consulting the detailed history of your presenting condition.
- Scoping your general medical history and any relevant information regarding occupation, activities, or previous injuries.
- Postural and biomechanical screening of relevant areas.
- Range of motion and muscle testing.
An effective hands-on treatment will follow at our Melbourne CBD location, utilising techniques such as Deep Tissue Massage, Trigger Point Therapy, Cupping, Dry Needling, Myofascial Release and stretching.
A personalised plan will then be developed for you, outlining treatment and prevention/ management of your condition. This may include postural correction, stretches or corrective exercises.

What services are offered?
Myotherapy treatment is serviced includes a variety of modalities and corrective exercises:
Soft and deep tissue techniques
Soft and deep tissue massage techniques target your muscles, tendons, ligaments, or other connective tissue such as fascia. A muscle tissue massage includes a whole range of massage depths, pressures, and durations.
Myofascial release
Myofascial release is a type of physical therapy often used to treat myofascial pain syndrome. Myofascial pain syndrome is a chronic pain disorder caused by sensitivity and tightness in your myofascial tissues.
Myofascial dry needling
Dry needling (similar to acupuncture) is a treatment method where fine single use needles are inserted into altered or dysfunctional tissue to improve or restore function. Needles are usually inserted into taught bands of muscle or connective tissue that may be contributing to your pain and limiting free and relaxed movement.
Muscle Energy Technique
Muscle Energy Technique is a manual therapy that uses the gentle muscle contractions of the patient to relax and lengthen muscles and normalise joint motion.
Joint mobilisation
Joint mobilisation is a manual therapy intervention, a type of straight-lined, passive movement of a skeletal joint that addresses arthrokinematic joint motion (joint gliding) rather than osteokinematic joint motion. It is usually aimed at a ‘target’ synovial joint with the aim of achieving a therapeutic effect.
Cupping
Cupping is another tool we use to help release the myofascial layer of the soft tissue. Cupping helps to bring blood flow to these tissues and when used with active range of motion, helps to stretch the fascial lines of the body, and improve range of motion and muscular function.
Stretching
Stretching is used to lengthen the muscles and connective tissue, actively or passively around joint segments, to improve range of motion and realign muscle fibres to promote optimal functioning.
